Ian Pennekamp

Born in Bussum, the Netherlands, in 2001, Ian raced his first local triathlon at the age of 14. In 2019 he won the Dutch national junior championship for the first time, successfully defending this national title in the years after. Racing in the Under 23 World Championships in Edmonton in 2021 was an extraordinary experience. Finishing with the 7th over all time on the run, this race taught him a lot about what it takes to compete against the best athletes of the world. A year later Ian even based his bachelor thesis on his experiences during this race. A 4th place at the ETU finals in Quarteira with the Elite men end of 2021 gave him the encouragement of being on the right track. Beginning of 2022 Ian was working hard to deliver his bachelor thesis in Human Movement Science, next to getting ready for the new season, when he got severely injured on a training run. This injury caused him the full 2022 season. Graduating Cum Laude, investing significant time in swimming and his mental game, bringing in patience and trust in his recovery, became his main focus of that year. He celebrated his comeback in december 2022 with a third place during the African Cup in Dakhla, Marokko and looks forward to making the 2023 season a one that counts in order to qualify for the Olympic Games in 2024.

From the very beginning, my parents' company has fully supported me in realizing my dream. In return, I have been a support during workshops and to our accountant in the administration of TAG since 2019.
